01 — About us

We are the salt of freedom. We preserve what power wants to erase.

The name La Saliberator comes from two words: sal — salt, that preserves, and liberator — one who frees. We preserve memory to liberate the future. Born as a small exile blog in 2012, today lasaliberator.org is a full independent newsroom, archive and cultural movement.

We are historians, journalists, photographers, lawyers and former political prisoners. We work across borders, in Spanish and English, to tell stories that official media hide: grassroots protests, underground art, women of resistance, banned books, rescued archives, and everyday heroism.

Our principle is simple: no party, no government, no corporation tells us what to write. Readers keep us alive. History judges us.

We believe memory is resistance.

“When they burn books, we memorize them. When they close newspapers, we become the newspaper. When they exile us, we carry the homeland in language.”

— Founding editorial, La Saliberator №1. Our 7 principles are painted on the wall of every safe newsroom: verify, protect sources, never incite hatred, honor victims, separate fact from opinion, correct openly, serve the voiceless first.
